Why Should You Start a Blog in 2020? The Next Online Business in the Philippines

Despite the current challenges, 2020 is a great time to start a blog. What you just need is to know why you should do it.

Investing your time and money in a new project, especially during a pandemic, does not look like a great idea.

But this is exactly why starting a blog now is a great idea!

Let me explain.

Imagine a business that you can start from home, that requires low investment and can be a side hustle. Well, the answer is to start a blog.

Now, let me go further. I’ll tell you why there is an opportunity now and why you should grab it.

Seeing the opportunity in an uncertain time

Today, I am writing amid the global pandemic that has affected our entire world. Covid19 is shifting the way we are living our lives.

Indeed, some dramatic effects to the global economy such as lower growth and increased unemployment can be noticed.

Philippines growth rate dropped by 16.5% in the second quarter of 2020 (psa.gov.ph).

At a micro scale, many owners had to close their businesses and many individuals lost their jobs. 1/4th of PH businesses have closed operations since the beginning of the pandemic according to the Department of Trade and Industry (mb.com).

When all the economic indicators are turning red, how can we see an opportunity?

The world is usually balanced. Bad stuff happening is sometimes the beginning for something good again.

It is like when one quits their corporate job and finds themselves some months later in an entrepreneurial activity that brings them more joy.

It is the same for blogging.

The online world is growing. As people are passing more time on the internet. They spend more time reading and watching content.

With the increasing numbers of people online and the longer hours spent online due to community quarantines, your content has a potential to be seen even more than before the pandemic.

Don’t get me wrong, all of us would have largely preferred not experiencing this situation.

I am just pointing out that there is an opportunity for bloggers here.

Blogging skills are still and even more in demand

More than that, because of the growing numbers of people online, digital marketing skills are even more in demand.

Restaurants and coffee shops have shifted their dine-in activity through a bigger focus on online deliveries. But this means that they need content creators.

They could need people to produce online content such as artworks, writing of captions, writing of menus, etc.

Which is what bloggers can do.

A lot of businesses that were usually advertising traditionally (print ads, etc.) are shifting their strategy to more investments in online ads (this even before the pandemic).

So, they need writers.

Specialized in writing content on the internet. That are usually aware of the mechanics of digital marketing including SEO tools and blogging.

Blogs will be seen more. Posts will be read more.

I can tell. You are more than ever on this website; this sums it up, I am just looking at my analytics.

Whether you want to start a blog for yourself, for your small business, for a company you are working for and want to expand its digital marketing tools, you should act today.

Blogging skills are in demand and you do not want to miss this opportunity.

Always the right time to start something new

Speaking generally, it is always the right time to start a new hobby or project.

Setting up your blog might be the next activity that brings you meaning when you wake up in the morning.

Instead of browsing social media endlessly, you could write something that you want to share to your audience.

Bringing more sense to the things you do.

For those who want to make a personal blog. There is something very fulfilling of having your own blog.

As it is basically yours, you can express your own voice freely.

Plus, at the beginning, the actual great thing is that few will read your articles. So, you should not really care about being afraid to express your own voice.

Besides, you might think there are already a lot of content creators in the Philippines, which is true. But they are not you.

You might do something better than what they are doing.

Especially, if it is about blogging.

As blogging is mostly writing. They are a few writers in the Philippines that have set up a professional blog.

Many had just set up free-to-use websites, where they are posting their thoughts, not using the leverage tools of blogging as a business.

Missing out on the current opportunity.

Even though blogging is first a passion, I am sure you will enjoy earning some revenues from it. Especially, if you have paid for a serious hosting of your website and other features.

So, start a blog in 2020. This is probably one of the easiest and smallest investments in business you could do.

Plus, in times of crisis, being busy with an exciting new project with potential revenues from a side hustle is a real satisfaction.

To do so, you will have to study how to set up a professional blog and how to earn revenues from it. Which I explain in other articles.

  1. A blog can be more than just a way of advancing your online presence; it can be a way of advancing your life… a platform you create that can propel you forward in the direction of your choice. Blogging is an inexpensive way for small businesses to drive traffic to their site, enhance inbound marketing efforts and attract more perspective customers.
