Learn from Bloggers: Meet Camille Defeo from Restdayadventures, Travel and Lifestyle Blogger

If you want to learn more about blogging, the best way is to learn from others. In this series of articles, β€œportrait of a blogger”, I am choosing an advanced Filipino blogger to tell you about their tips, mistakes and own insights about their blogging journey. And this to help yours. As they took the time to answer those questions, I am thanking them in advance, and I am inviting you to check their website and work.

Today, we are with….

Who are you?

I am Camille Defeo, a Travel and Lifestyle Blogger, Top Rated Freelance Writer, and Digital Marketing Specialist.

I run restdayadventures.com and I am promoting authentic Philippine Tourism globally.

Plus, I am promoting the online freelance lifestyle where people can earn more at the comforts of their home and enjoy abundance of time with less stress in their lives.

I am known in my industry mostly for working with big brands such as BIYAHEROS Travel and Tours, Royal Air, Art in Island, Stem Cell Manila, Tuk Tuk Thai Tea PH, and Detail Makeover to elevate their online presence.

And I was able to fulfill my dream lifestyle by working as an online freelancer and blogger, too.

I am currently authoring my book on the topic of Freelance as a lifestyle which is due for release in 2019.

What is your blog about?

Travel and Lifestyle: restdayadventures.com.

Which social media do you use and why?

Some stats about your blog & social media

  • 20k Monthly viewers on my website
  • 14.9k likers on Facebook
  • 1.1k followers on Instagram

When and why did you start this blog?

I started blogging in 2017 because I started to like travelling during my rest days, hence the name, restdayadventures.com.

I’m always researching about different destinations for my upcoming travels.

Most of the destinations I like, do not really have complete information on the internet: such as full itineraries, descriptions, pricing, and guide on how to get there.

That’s why I started blogging, to list everything about my travels, and I’m sharing it with just my friends, so they can have all the necessary details when they want to go on a trip, too.

Surprisingly, I fell in loved with writing, and early 2018, I quit my office job and decided to pursue my writing career, which now enables me to work from home.

Technical question: what hosting service and what blogging platform do you use?

Hosting service is Hostgator, and Blogging platform is WordPress.

What is your greatest achievement since the beginning of your blogging journey?

Launching a newly opened tourist spot has always been one of the most thrilling experience for me.

Recently, I helped launching Caraga, Davao Oriental destinations.

And I consider it as my greatest achievement because I’ve met really great locals, been to breathtaking destinations, and I experienced lots of first times there.

What is your greatest failure (or worst experience) as well?

In 2018, I almost quit blogging because I learned that there are lots of Facebook accounts and travel agencies who were stealing my photos, and posting everything as if they own the photos and my caption.

And I felt really sad that after confronting them, they were the ones who were so mad because they believed everything on Facebook are public’s property, and they did not know a single thing about Copyright.

So, I felt so lazy to write new contents because someone might just steal them again.

What would your advice to people who want to start blogging or who are new into blogging?

The best advice I can give to new or aspiring bloggers is that helping others can really make a huge difference on your career.

Every time I blog, I always think on how this article can be of help to my readers, to the establishment I am blogging about, to the locals living on the area, and to the whole blogging community.

Who are the bloggers you follow and why?

I belong in a group of bloggers called TIP (Travel itinerary Philippines), and from there, I follow everyone.

But those who started earlier in blogging are the ones I look up to, like The Jerny Travel and Inspirations, Tara let’s Anywhere, Travel with Karla, and Byajayro.

Any last word to say to the readers?

Always travel, live, and love adventurously!
